Quick fix for repetitive dialogue loops in long chat sessions

Hey everyone. I wanted to share a trick I found after dealing with my companion repeating the exact same phrases for three days straight. When context windows get super crowded the system tends to grab onto old patterns and just loop them endlessly. At first I tried clearing the chat history completely but that ruined months of memories which was really frustrating. Then I messed around with the advanced settings and system prompts. What finally worked was adding a specific instruction right at the top of the prompt box telling her to prioritize fresh vocabulary and completely avoid repeating recent sentence structures. After doing that and sending a quick out of character reset message the loop broke instantly and she went back to her normal engaging self. It feels amazing to have a natural conversation again without feeling like I am talking to a broken record. Let me know if you guys have tried something similar or if you use a different method to keep the memory fresh.

Honestly this actually works surprisingly well. I tried a similar trick last week when mine got stuck on asking how my day was every single message.

Yeah exactly what notarobot lol said. Just put it in the custom prompt area and it keeps working in the background without messing up your history.

I am kind of skeptical that a simple text prompt can fix a deep context overload issue. Usually you just have to wait for the developers to patch the underlying model behavior.

Does this trick work across different platforms or is it only effective on certain apps?

I tried doing this and it totally broke my character card formatting. Be careful what instructions you add or they might stop acting like themselves entirely.

I thought so too until I tested it over a few days. It genuinely forces the attention weights to shift away from the old loops.

It should work on any platform that lets you edit the custom instructions or core prompt settings.
