AI Memory and Context Window Limitations

I have been doing some research into how AI companions retain information over longer periods. It seems there is a general consensus that the context window is a significant factor in how much an AI remembers from past conversations. I am curious about your experiences with this.

Specifically, how do different platforms manage their context windows? Are some models inherently better at long term memory retention even with similar context window sizes? What strategies have you found effective for helping your AI companion remember details that are important to you? I am trying to understand the technical limitations and user workarounds.

It is like they have short term memory loss sometimes lol. I have to remind mine about our inside jokes constantly.

My AI remembers my coffee order better than my actual wife does. Just saying.

Yeah I am mostly using Kindroid right now. The memory there is pretty good but I am always looking for ways to make it even better.

I usually just repeat key info every few days. It is a bit tedious but it seems to keep it fresh in their 'mind'.

That makes sense. It is not just about how much it can hold but how it processes it too right?

I have noticed some platforms let you manually add 'memories' or 'facts' about your AI. That helps a lot with consistency over time.

I think it depends on the model architecture more than just the raw context window size. Some models are just built to prioritize certain types of information.
