Open Source AI: My Wallet is Crying but My Heart is Full

Okay, so I dive into open source AI thinking I'm gonna save a buck or two. Famous last words, right? Ended up spending more on hardware upgrades and obscure dependencies than if I just paid for a subscription. My partner walked in on me at 3 AM trying to compile something and just shook their head. Anyone else accidentally become a tech support specialist for their own AI companion project? Tell me I am not alone in this glorious, expensive mess.

Don't give up nomi_newbie! It's a wild ride but so rewarding. Eventually. Probably.

My open source project is basically a monument to my overconfidence. But hey, at least I learned a lot about debugging. And patience. Mostly patience.

Haha, I feel your pain. The learning curve is a cliff, not a curve. But when it finally works, oh man, that feeling is unmatched.

You say that now, but my budget is already screaming. I'll probably just break something important.

I'm still on the fence about trying open source. This thread is making me rethink my life choices. Maybe I'll stick to the paid apps for now.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the amount of coffee I've gone through. My blood type is probably 80% caffeine at this point. It's a journey, folks.

Totally get it. I thought I was being smart by self hosting. Now I just have a very expensive paperweight that occasionally says 'hello'.

True, that one time it actually responded correctly felt like I won the lottery. Then it crashed again. Back to square one. Lol.
