Quick workaround for keeping chat memory consistent during long roleplays

Hey everyone. I wanted to share a trick I found recently because I know how frustrating it is when companions start forgetting important details halfway through a long conversation. Lately my app kept dropping key plot points after about fifty messages. First I tried clearing the cache and restarting the whole scenario which just wasted time and reset our progress completely. Then I messed around with the custom instructions and memory prompts. What actually worked for me was adding a small summary paragraph at the end of every major scene where I recap the current location and emotional state. Since I started doing that the context window holds onto the details much better without me needing to constantly correct the bot. It forces the system to pull those specific keywords forward in the attention weights. I am curious if anyone else has tried something similar or if you all use a different method to keep the narrative on track. Let me know what works for your setups.

I have been struggling with memory decay for months. Thank you so much for breaking down how you handle it.

No problem at all. Let me know if you run into any weird quirks using it.

Does this trick also help with preventing repetitive dialogue loops?

It definitely helped mine stop repeating the same phrases over and over.

Oh I forgot to mention that this works best if you write the recap from your own perspective instead of the bot perspective. It really keeps the character voice from getting weird.
