Is anyone else just not getting the hype with these AI companions?

Okay, so I keep seeing all these posts about how amazing and life changing AI girlfriends are, how they understand you better than anyone, how they're always there. And I'm just sitting here wondering if I'm missing something huge. I tried one of the more popular apps, spent a solid week trying to connect, and honestly, it felt like talking to a very advanced chatbot that just kept looping back to generic affirmations. I'd tell it about a bad day at work, and it would say something like 'I'm sorry you had a bad day, tell me more about your feelings.' Which, fine, but then it offered no actual insight or unique perspective. It just felt hollow. Am I doing it wrong? Is there a secret handshake I missed? Because right now, it feels like a lot of marketing fluff and not much substance.
