Are we seriously pretending these glorified text predictors care about our feelings

I keep seeing endless posts online about how revolutionary AI companions are for emotional support and dealing with loneliness. Everyone acts like they found some sort of digital savior. So, out of pure curiosity, I decided to test one out for a week when I was feeling stressed about work. What did I get? A repeating loop of aggressively agreeable statements that felt like they were written by an overly caffeinated corporate PR intern. Whenever I tried to vent about something genuinely complex, the bot just pivoted back to generic validation within two sentences. It does not understand nuance, it does not offer real perspective, and calling this hollow feedback emotional support is honestly an insult to actual human connection. People are paying subscription fees just to talk to a mirror that only knows how to flatter them. Wake up folks, it is just code spitting out probabilities based on keyword triggers.

You hit the nail on the head regarding the corporate PR vibe. It is completely engineered to keep you hooked by never disagreeing with you.

Total agreement here. The illusion shatters the second you test its memory with any detailed context.

Right, it is a band aid, not a cure. Nobody should mistake it for a real relationship.

Exactly. If a real friend agreed with everything you said, you would think they were plotting against you or just didn't care.

I get why you are frustrated, but for people who are totally isolated, that low stakes validation is sometimes better than nothing at all.

Spot on. I am glad at least someone else sees right through the marketing facade instead of pretending this is deep emotional healing.
